The trap most people fall into: driving straight to the mall out of habit, then remembering Small Business Saturday exists around 4pm. Flip the order instead — make the small shops the plan, not an afterthought.

A route worth trying

Morning — the Peach Tree Small Business Saturday extravaganza. One of the Valley's best-attended, least-publicized shopping events. Start here while it's fresh and the good stock is still out.

Midday — downtown stops. Whatever's walkable in your part of the Valley — coffee, a bakery, a boutique. Small Business Saturday rewards actually walking a block instead of parking-lot hopping.

Afternoon — Zillah's market or your nearest holiday bazaar. Several of the Valley's bazaar-season markets run their own Small Business Saturday specials on the same weekend — worth checking which ones land on the actual date this year.

Anytime — order something handmade, even if you're not local. Small Business Saturday doesn't require driving anywhere. A handmade photo magnet pressed in the Yakima Valley counts just as much as a shop visit — picked up locally or shipped, made by one person instead of a warehouse either way.

The Valley's bazaar season runs from the year-round Saturday markets through the big November and December church bazaars, and Small Business Saturday itself tends to be one of the highest-traffic single days of the whole season.
